Program Description: UNAVCO, a non-profit university-governed consortium, facilitates geoscience research and education using geodesy. Under a 2013 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), UNAVCO operates the National Earth Science Geodetic Facility, known as the Geodesy Advancing Geosciences and EarthScope (GAGE) Facility. UNAVCO’s NSF- and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)-funded core activities are now integrated under this umbrella. The GAGE Facility provides support to the NSF investigator community for geodesy, related research, education and workforce training with broad societal benefits. NSF-funded geodesy investigators are active on every continent, across a broad spectrum of the geosciences and facilitated by UNAVCO data, engineering, and education services.

Organization Description: The UNAVCO consortium Membership consists of more than 100 US Full Members and over 80 Associate Members (domestic and international).

Data Description: UNAVCO promotes research by providing access to data that our community of geodetic scientists uses for quantifying the motions of rock, ice and water that are monitored by a variety of sensor types at or near the Earth's surface. After processing, these data enable millimeter-scale surface motion detection and monitoring at discrete points, and high-resolution strain imagery over areas of tens of square meters to hundreds of square kilometers. The data types include GPS/GNSS, imaging data such as from SAR and TLS, strain and seismic borehole data, and meteorological data. Most of these can be accessed via web services. In addition, GPS/GNSS datasets are assigned digital object identifiers.
