DARIAH-EU - Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities


Program Description: DARIAH, the Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities, aims to enhance and support digitally-enabled research and teaching across the humanities and arts. By working with communities of practice, DARIAH-EU will bring together individual state-of-the-art digital Arts and Humanities activities across Europe. The DARIAH-EU infrastructure will be a connected network of tools, information, people and methodologies for investigating, exploring and supporting research across the broad spectrum of the Digital Humanities. Virtual Competency Centre (VCC) e-Infrastructure is responsible for DARIAH’s technological foundations. It is working on a digital environment that allows to share community-developed data and tools to ensure the quality, permanence and growth of eInfrastructures and technical services in the Arts and Humanities. Among our main goals is the availability of infrastructure services for as many researchers in the A+H disciplines as possible which consequently will safeguard Europe’s role as a global player in the Arts and Humanities. This includes e.g. local data stores for the trustworthy management of research data: large national data archives as well as smaller specialised collections, digital scholarly tools: infrastructure components as well as digital research environments and standards to ensure interoperability across different locations, different disciplines, different scholarly and cultural traditions as well as different languages.

Organization Description: DARIAH-EU has been established as an ERIC, a European Research Infrastructure Consortium. The Founding Members of the DARIAH-ERIC are Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Serbia and Slovenia. France is the host country of the DARIAH-ERIC.
